Dakota Plains Running Club

Promoting a running lifestyle

About Us

E-mail: running@dakotaplainsrunningclub.com

In 2006, Dakota Plains Running Club (DPRC)  was organized by a small group of runners wishing to better organize running and running events in the Mitchell area. The clubs first organized event was the Turkey Trot Road Race on Thanksgiving day of 2006. Only a handful of runners participated in that first race, but the club was finally “officially” a running club. In 2007, DPRC hosted several events including the Corn Palace Triathlon, Senior Games Road Race, and the Turkey Trot.

As we’ve started this running club, many people have asked “What benefits do I get for being a member?”

Well for one, your supporting an organization that is trying to promote running in our community not only for competitive purposes, but for health and mental well-being. A local doctor recently said that Mitchell is one of the unhealthiest towns in the state.

Many newspaper stories and TV documentaries are showing how the youth of America has become more obese than the generation before. DPRC’s goal is to increase participation in running for all reasons.

Also, as a member you will receive 4 quarterly newsletters each year and have reduced entry fees for all events organized by the club. We are also in the process of creating our web page to keep you more informed of club events, the records program, and links to other sites.

On occasion, DPRC will host a social get together so club members can have a chance to meet each other.

We are also working on getting special discounts for club members at various business. More details in the future.
